Video/3D animation/Flash

For this project I decided to use three of the skills I have aquired and combine them. In the project we were asked to shoot a scene and them implement a 3d animation we have made for 30 seconds. Although this is a cool project I decided that I could make it better. After getting approval we went ahead and made our own little world, I did it with the idea of Thomas the Train in mind. Its disgustingly cute.

Learning 3ds Max

This semester we have a whole class based on 3d animation. In our first Assignment we were asked to create a snowman, this is mine... I did a few tutorials on the side and discovered how to create a polygon mesh and used it to make the dog house. I tried to add hair to the dog but it seemed very complicated and he ended up looking ill. All in all a fun task.

Photoshop Painting

Just something I did in my spare time for fun. It is a Mock Up of a Drew Brophy painting for my apartment. I simply used Illustrator to trace and Photoshop to paint. I got a new tablet and LOVED using the airbrush. Turned out pretty good and alomst as good as the original. I have it sized at 40in x 40in and I think it will create a great splash of color in my living room. (Not for sale, just for fun and personal use)

Friday August 27th: 6 HOURS Spent today redoing the Flash Intro. Laura wanted a few specific things to happen and after speaking I was better able to see her vision. This is what I ended up with. Here I am just showing how I would animate one of her ideas. This week I will be fine tuining the Intro.

Thursday August 26th: 6 HOURS

Today I began animating the intro for the Mulberry Site. It should have taken me alot less time but I did run into a few small obstacles, all part of the learning process I suppose. Practice makes perfect!

I have posted the clip here and it is currently being sent for approval. There are a few tweaks I would like to make, for it to be perfect and if approved I will continue working on it. If not...back to the drawing board then.

I also recieved a great gift today, from the Owner of Mulberry Media. In addition to a borrowed book on action script she also got me a months membership @ Lynda.com. It's amazing! Gladly I have tons of reading and researching to fill my time over the school break.

Wednesday August 25th: 5 HOURS

Unfortunatly, due to a morning meeting today I had a late start. I really wanted to attack the Bougeois site and begin brainstoriming way to make it work. After hours of smashing my head against the wall i gave up. The theme just does not seem to work with the overall vibe for the site. It seems rather conflicting and after a few hours I gave up and decided to focus on something else. I would rather have a finished product than a unfinished thought. I began to focus on the Mulberry Intro in hopes that the Bourgeois problem would come to me.
I began to crop some key images from Mulberry media and import into Flash and sent an email to Laura.
She let me know that they had also been having problems with the Bourgeois theme and may have to scrap it and come up with something new.
Although frusterating, I am really beginning to understand that sometimes even though you loe the idea, sometimes you just have to start over and begin again.
Tuesday August 24th: 6 HOURS

Today I worked on Paulette Bourgeois site. I had recieved a flash file which was running way too fast. I began adding Actionscript to it and researching how to build sites in Flash. Although maybe not as productive as i would have liked (since they are thinking about changing the theme) I did learn alot and am hopeful that it will apply in my future action scripting. I was also lent a book on action scripting by Laura and am reading up on it as I would like to be strong and proficient in every area. Especially coding, I enjoy it very much and would like to focus on this area.

Internship with Mulberry Media

So I am four days into my internship with 'Mulberry Media' although I am only required to complete 120 hours, I would like to continue working on outside projects even if it surpasses the required hours. I will keep updates on my hours logged and my activities here:

Monday August 23rd:9 1/2 HOURS

Met with Laura James to discuss the projects she has been working on. We are looking at a website and intro for "Paulette Bourgeois" the author of "Franklin". An intro and website for "Mulberry Media" as well as completing an Iphone application for "WeeHands" (A baby sign language company). Once at home I began to work on the Wee Hands project. I decided to try and come up with fun ways to illustrate the objects that would be signed. After a few different approaches we have agreed on a flash sketch. I cannot proceed with the project until we have a definite size for the objects.

Excited!!!!

During this course we are required to complete a 120 hour internship. I was lucky enough to meet a fantastic lady who owns and operates "Mulberry Media". I will be working with her on some amazing projects over the break. I am curently illustrating objects in flash for a baby sign language company called "Wee Hands". So be sure to keep checking my blog and site for new updates!

Walking Sequence

We weren't shown EXACTLY how to do this but I think I got it figured out. We did learn how to move objects. This was a little different as I had to replace the picture in each cell. Also figured out how to drag it out. The very first one I made was super fast. All common sense stuff I suppose. We are going over more in class I just couldnt wait to see her walk :)

Walking Sequence

We get to use Flash and I am so happy to be learning it. We were asked today to do a wlaking sequence. I used a cartoonists sketches as guidelines and have created a little girl walking. I am having so much fun with this.

Haunted Castle StoryBoard

The in Class Assignment today was to sketch a storyboard. The options were cars, cigars or castles. (Alliteration had nothing to do with it.) I chose Castles and went ahead to depict an haunting scene of a scottish castle. The idea was based on Fyvie Castle which has many eerie stories

First we pan a vibrant Scottish country side as we zoom in on an immaculate castle. The view is vast and the mood is light. Soon enough we zoom in on the castle and enter the doors, once inside the sound of haunting bagpipes begin very quietly. The trip down the main corridor is framed with a dusty hallway rich with tapestries and elegant statues. The door at the end shudders as we approach.Once inside the room at the end there is a mirror with a faint image of a girl. Suddenly the girl begins to throw her head in agony and screams. The mirror cracks and a deafening scratching sound directs our attention to the left where we see letters being etched into the window frame. The camera zooms and turns to see the name Lillias. Presumably the name of the tortured ghost we have just encountered.

Lightning Tutorial

Another in class assignment. This time we were shown how to create a lightning effect. I decided to add it to a dark anime Image I found online.

Skate Deck

Got my sticker today and applied it to my board, I didnt like it. The water and the Sky are too dark. I have applied a texture to my water that lightens it up and makes it much more interesting. I will be reprinting my sticker. This is my new textured design.

Coca Cola Poster

Poster is looking good. Alot better than I thought since it is a conjoined effort. I usually like to work alone when it comes to art but i guess when you have a creative group it's not disasterous. Everyone had some really great input today. So far I have added mine and Erika's Vector Art. I included some art that I have done in previous projects Including Eeeber and the Wave, My pin up girl, the Ice Cream and the Flag are new. Just simple objects. Lawrence and Bud are submitting work soon and I will be working with them to place them correctly so that our poster flows well in its chaos.

SKATE DECK!

Okay, so Ive finished my colors and gradients for my Skate Deck in Photoshop, and it looks wicked :) . I used the Illustrator image as a smart object and colored under it, expanding my selections to hopefully get rid of any white spots...but when I transferred the colors as a background under my vector art...there was white! There's got to be a way! Time for some tutorials, hopefully will post in the next week.

Coca Cola Poster

In Daria's class we were asked to get together in a group and do a Coca Cola Poster. At first we gathered Images and researched the type of ad's Coca-Cola has done in the past, then we sat together and brainstormed some ideas. We decided to go with the classic Coca-Cola bottle and ribbon, inside the bottle we are each compiling our own Vector pieces based on things that make us happy. We felt that Coca-cola is energetic and fun advertising and felt this would best suit the brand as well as allow us all to offer our own artistic vision. In the end it will be a sort of abstract work. We will all import our images then sit together and place in the most design friendly pattern.

This is the background which I gladly volunteered to do. Now we will each work on five images each.

SKATE DECK!

This is the new and improved illustration for my Skate Deck. However, I've had two people tell me that they prefer the dinosaurs....decisions, decisions....I've decided to make them both. I will then decide which one is better and will be posting on Drew Brophy's facebook. It was all he asked in return for me to use his wave art. I LOVE his work...Drewbrophy.com

Paper Zoo

Got the last Background, all done :)

Paper Zoo

Just got the ocean background. Still missing the desert...Will have to upload when Andrew uploads it.

Megadalon Poster

A few people had posted their posters and I saw one that was similar to my idea. I was going to use the megadalon jaws as the main element. So I went on a search and found this vector illustration. I decided to keep it simple, just to catch the attention and not give too much information. This way more people would come see the exhibit out of curiousity.

Paper Zoo

Although we were not asked to use color for the animals I thought it would help them stand out.

Since this project is concerned about blogging every step of the process, I have included the final draft of my animal illustrations before opening in illustrator.
